Elected Candidates

Congratulations on being elected to the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society. Being selected by your peers for this honor is a significant achievement, and you should feel proud of your election. As a candidate, you probably have a lot of questions. This page should help answer those and guide you through the next steps in your journey!

What is the Order of the Arrow?

The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting’s National Honor Society. Every Scouting council in America has its own OA lodge. Our lodge is called Lenape Lodge. The OA was founded in 1915 by Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson at Treasure Island Camp to recognize Scouts and Scouters who live the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives—just like you! In 1948, the Order of the Arrow officially became part of the Boy Scouts of America. Since 2019, membership has expanded to include all Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout ships, welcoming both male and female members.

What is the Purpose of the Order of the Arrow?

The OA serves four primary purposes:

  1. Recognize those who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and, through that recognition, cause others to act in the same way.
  2. Reinforce a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.
  3. Create and deliver peer-led, adult-guided, advanced leadership experiences for Scouts and Scouters that positively impact their unit, community, and ultimately our nation.
  4. Be an integral part of Scouting America and encourage participation in all it offers through units, outdoor adventures, and national events to further the Scouting experience.

What is the Mission of the Order of the Arrow?

The Order of the Arrow’s Mission is to achieve the mission of Scouting America through transformative fellowship that ignites limitless Scouting journeys.

When can I complete my Induction Weekend?

Once you’ve been elected, completing your Induction Weekend is the next step to becoming a full member of the OA. You have 18 months from the time of your election to complete the Induction, with several opportunities throughout the year. Be sure to check the Upcoming Events page and register for the next Induction Weekend.

Why is the Induction kept secret?

The Induction experience is meant to be a personal journey, and secrecy helps preserve its impact. Lenape Lodge does not withhold information to keep you in the dark, but rather to ensure the Induction Weekend is a meaningful and reflective experience focused on service and growth.

What should I bring to my Induction Weekend?
