About
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting’s National Honor Society. Every Scouting council in America has its own OA lodge. Our lodge is called Lenape Lodge. The OA was founded in 1915 by Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson at Treasure Island Camp to recognize Scouts and Scouters who live the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives—just like you! In 1948, the Order of the Arrow officially became part of the Boy Scouts of America. Since 2019, membership has expanded to include all Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout ships, welcoming both male and female members.
Lenape Lodge 8 began serving the newly formed Garden State Council a year after the council’s creation on January 1st, of 2014, after the merger of the Legacy Lodges Te’Kening and Hunnikick. A red-tailed hawk was chosen to be the totem of the lodge. Looking back, Lenape is part of a long succession of historical lodges, stemming from the aforementioned Te’Kening and Hunnikick that came from the Southern New Jersey and Burlington County Councils respectively. Preceding Te’Kening were the lodges Apatukwe 107 and Lekau 77 which merged in 1999. The earliest merger goes all the way back to the 1960’s when lodges Kon Kon Tu 107 and Unilachtego 411 merged to create Apatukwe. Lenape proudly honors these lodges in the “Lekau Lodge” where items and momentos from each of the historical lodges are on display. As a Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, Lenape Lodge dedicates itself to cheerful service even in the midst of irksome tasks and weighty responsibilities. As Arrowmen, we hold ourselves to the Scout Oath, Scout Law, and Order of the Arrow Obligation to preserve the betterment of our community and our country.
